SECOND HAND SMOKE - JUST SAY KNOW #28
There has been significant proof that second-hand smoke causes lung disease and other serious respiratory infections in young children. Why? Because their lungs are still developing. They need a healthy environment to grow in…that means fresh air to breathe.
This video informs students about the dangers of second-hand smoke and encourages them to protect themselves from it. Young people are exposed to second-hand smoke every day. Many of them are unaware of the short and long term effects of such cumulative exposure. Every time they enter a smoking environment, they are exposed to toxic air.
In Second-Hand Smoke: Just Say Know high school students explain to middle school students that second-hand smoke causes chronic ear aches, bronchitis, and even pneumonia. Dr. Tracey Wallace explains that these problems become increasingly challenging to treat and could persist throughout one’s lifetime.
Showing Second-Hand Smoke: Just Say Know to your students informs them with up-to-date facts, gives them a stronger understanding of how dangerous second-hand smoke is to their health, and teaches them polite ways to escape from it. Help your students make the healthy choice to steer clear of cigarette smoke. Help them to ask others not to smoke in their presence.
The more young people KNOW, the more likely they are to ask, “Please, keep your smoke away from me.”
